This is the final (as of now) chapter of my AkaDrabbles series; the Leader x You drabble. You know, save the best for last. Lol. Just kidding. Out of all my drabbles, my favorite is the Itachi one; though I’m fond of the Zetsu, Deidara, Tobi, and Unknown member drabbles as well. This one isn’t too great, but whatever.
Ya know, I really like Leader. It’s disappointing that there aren’t any more reader inserts about him, though I suppose the fact that his face hasn’t been revealed could be a large factor of that. >.> Lol.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ever since you were young you had always been fascinated with the dark.
You weren’t sure exactly what the attraction was, though it could’ve been any number of different things; the thrill of not being able to see with your eyes, forcing yourself to rely on your other senses; the fear and anticipation you feel when hearing something within the darkness but not knowing what it could be; the mysterious, almost romantic, atmosphere that fills the evening air and manages to sooth your spirit; the twinkling of the stars or the moon as it pierces the pitch blackness of the night…
Perhaps it was a combination of all those reasons. Maybe more.
Still, in light of all this information, it was no surprise to you that you would find yourself attracted to him as well.
You never saw what he looked like which forced you to have to rely on your sense of hearing to listen to his voice and imagine a face that would suit it; because you didn’t know him, you feared him and anticipated what he would do next; he was always shrouded in a mysterious air that could be both frightening and calming at the same time; the only part of him that you could ever make out in the darkness was a set of twinkling, glowing eyes.
He was the darkness personified and that was why you loved him.
Well, love was such a strong word for what you felt. Too strong, in fact. You were fascinated by him, attracted to him, loyal to him. Heck, maybe you even looked up to him a little bit. Still, you couldn’t truthfully say that you loved him.
It’s pretty hard to fall in love with someone you barely even know.
“Are you even listening to me?”
You jumped, the silky smooth voice of Leader startling you out of your inner monologue. You bit your lip and blushed lightly as you stared into the darkness, trying to get a good look at him; honestly, you hadn’t been listening to a word Leader had been saying, but you couldn’t let him know that so you nodded your head in confirmation.
He raised an eyebrow, or, you imagined that’s what he would do at the moment since you couldn’t really see his facial features. “Really now? Then would you care to repeat what I just told you?”
You gulped. “Um, you told me about how vital it is that we capture and seal all the jinchuuriki in the correct order” you guessed.
Leader stared at you, his eyes narrowed almost dangerously. Every second that he watched you, you felt another bead of sweat run down your forehead.
Would he kill you for not paying attention? You believed a simple slap on the wrist would suffice but this was Leader you were talking about and if you knew anything about him it was that he had a warped way of thinking. Not many sane people with normal thought processes decide that they’d like to control the world and actually go through with that plan.
He stared at you a moment longer, causing you to bite down onto your bottom lip until it started to bleed. “…Correct” he finally said in that velvet-like baritone of his, his answer causing you to ignore the metallic taste in your mouth and focus your full attention on him, resisting the urge to let out a sigh of relief when his eyes hardened. “Of course, I’ve only been talking about that for the last two hours. I doubt you could tell me anything less vague than what you just said.”
You blinked. “That’s not true! You said… Um… you said something about the jinchuuriki, right?” He closed his eyes and pressed his hand to his temple to fight off an impending headache, encouraging you to continue. “You were talking about the nine tails, right? I mean, you talk about him a lot, so… I’ll stop talking now” you finished quickly, bowing your head down respectfully.
“You need to start getting serious if you ever want to become a permanent member of Akatsuki” he lectured with a throaty sigh. You briefly glanced down at your finger, bereft of an Akatsuki ring, before turning your attention back to Leader. “Sometimes I wonder why someone as young as you would want to join Akatsuki in the first place.”
How could you tell him that you only joined just because you had a fascination for the darkness?
Instead, you simply smiled at him, eyes shining and pearly white teeth gleaming. You just smiled and nodded and pretended to listen as Leader ranted and lectured to you on the proper way to act if you ever wanted to be a true member of Akatsuki. Maybe you should’ve actually listened. Maybe you should’ve taken this all more seriously. Heck, maybe you shouldn’t even try to mess around with the leader of an evil terrorist organization and just run along home where you were safe. But you didn’t.
You weren’t afraid of the dark; you were simply attracted to it.
