Oh wow... I actually wrote a non-humorous You x Itachi drabble... Bleh. xP
I almost didn't stay under my 1000-word limit for this one. Itachi is such a complicated character. It's hard to stay in character with him, especially for romance drabbles. ...Which is why this isn't a love drabble. Though I probably failed at keeping him in character anyway.
And Itachi fangirls, don't distress! Though there is no warm lovingness in this drabble between you and Itachi that's not to say he would never care for you. Some of the best couples started out as enemies. >.>
Well, sorry for the lack of romance (even less romance than the Sasori drabble), but enjoy anyway. And, if you squint your eyes a little bit, you can almost see some romance in there... It's just really hard to see.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You could still remember the first time you had looked directly into Itachi’s eyes.
It had been an accident on your part; you had said something to insult Itachi, though you couldn’t remember what you had said any more, and you had made the mistake of making eye contact with him. You were met with orbs of crimson red, the black marks in his eyes spinning as he activated the Sharingan.
You were pulled into a world of black and white with the skies the color of freshly-spilt blood. A world where nightmares come true and all your fears rise to the surface. A world that you hoped to never have to pay another visit to ever again.
Even to this day you could still remember everything he had done to you. You could still recall the feel of every slice his sword made into your flesh, every stab in your gut, and every drop of your blood as it left your body and pooled at the ground by his feet. Itachi had made you feel this for seventy-two hours straight in a world where he controlled time and space.
But the worst part was that he hadn’t done any of it out of spite or anger. No; he did it to test you, to see if you were weak, to see if you were worthy enough to be a part of Akatsuki.
You had spent weeks stuck in bed in the Akatsuki’s hospital wing all because Itachi had wanted to test you.
You hated him. You hated Itachi and his devil eyes. You were half-tempted to gouge his eyes out of his skull but thought better of it. You were strong, yes, but you knew he was stronger. He could still take you down, even without his evil eyes.
You were angry, not stupid.
You frowned in distaste at the sight of the Uchiha as he entered the room. You kept your eyes averted from his in hopes that he would leave of his own accord. But, of course, fate would never allow you a moment of peace. Fate is evil. Like Itachi.
Instead, he walked towards you, stopping when he was about five feet away from you. Under any other conditions you would’ve scowled and moved farther away from him, but Leader had called an important meeting and you had to be at your best behavior.
You had wanted to ask why you all couldn’t just project holograms of yourselves and meet as you all usually did, but you held your tongue. It wasn’t a smart idea to question Leader. You feared him as much as you feared Itachi, if not more.
At the thought of him, you felt your eyes drifting towards the stoic Uchiha. He knew you were watching him, he always knew everything about his surroundings, but he made no sign of it. He kept his attention on Leader’s shadowed form, soaking up the man’s words like a sponge.
While you were busy brooding over Itachi, thinking of how much you hated him, you hadn’t noticed that the meeting was over until everyone else had left. Well, everyone else except for one other person. And, of course, that person just had to be Itachi.
It was official; the world was out to get you.
“You shouldn’t allow your thoughts to wander.”
You tilted your head to the side, your eyebrows quirked upward by just a small fraction. It was odd for Itachi to approach anyone, let alone start a conversation. He’d never been much of a conversationalist and the two of you hadn’t really been on speaking terms even before he used his Sharingan on you. While you would’ve liked nothing more than to simply walk away, you knew that if Itachi chose to speak to you then he must have something important to say.
“You didn’t hear a word Leader said, did you” he stated. He didn’t need to ask if you had been listening because he already knew the answer.
You reluctantly shook your head, further confirming Itachi’s suspicions.
“If you are to be in Akatsuki then you must always be aware of what is going on in your surroundings. Carelessness and inattentiveness will be the death of you.” If he didn’t end up being the death of you first. “We don’t need your weakness among our ranks.” Such sharp words coming from such a soft voice.
You growled under your breath, your eyes hardening as they focused Itachi’s lips, the closest thing to his eyes that you could look at without appearing awkward in the process. “Don’t patronize me, Uchiha. I’m no child and I’m not weak.” You clenched your fists, keeping it tight at your side to prevent you from punching Itachi in the teeth. Not that you didn’t want to hit him but you knew that if you tried anything he would dodge the blow and attack you without any regret.
He laughed, though the sound was anything but pleasant. “You are weak” he replied, pushing a loose strand of hair behind his ear. “You haven’t even the strength to look me in the eyes.”
You hated Itachi. You hated him because he was right.
“When you find the strength to look me straight in the eyes without a trace of fear, then, and only then, will I acknowledge you as a true member of Akatsuki.”
And then he was gone.
You grit your teeth and glared at the spot Itachi had been standing. You would get stronger. You would get rid of your fear. And most important of all…
You would look Itachi straight in his devil eyes and prove him wrong.
