Well, this is my first attempt at a story for this fandom. Yay! xD Sadly, I actually made the reader/you act nice to that evil Jaken toad-a-ma-jigger! Dx I hate him SOOO MUCH! ..But I also hate it when people are overly-cruel to him and turn him into an OOC sniveling coward that flees at any sign of danger. The only person he snivels to is Sesshomaru… And I don’t blame him. Fluffy-sama can be very frightening. So I guess this is my way for making it up to him. Ugh…
Also, I call Jaken an imp in the story. I have no idea what kind of demon he really is, but I think imp suits him. So there.
I’d also like to let all you Sesshomaru fangirls know right away that this story won’t be very “romantic” despite the fact that I put it under the romance category. As we all know, Sesshomaru is not very expressive when it comes to his emotions. The only time he smiles is when he’s up to trouble, and even then it’s still a rare occurrence. Sesshomaru is a strong character that rarely expresses any emotions at all, and when he does it’s usually anger, irritation, or something along those lines. Basically, what I’m saying is that Sesshomaru isn’t going to be very loving at all in this story, just for the sake of keeping him in character. The funny thing is, I don’t usually keep characters in character because I like to fool around with them and make fun of them. I guess Sesshomaru is the exception. …Because he’d kill me if I ever did. xD
And, of course, because this is the first chapter of the story, it’s relatively short and doesn’t really go anywhere. It just sets the plot for future chapters… though I’ve yet to discover what that plot shall be… >.>; So please, bear with me. It’ll get interesting once the story actually starts… Hopefully.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Inu Yasha or any of its characters, nor do I own YOU. ;__; How sad for me.
Now let’s get on with the story!
“Mushrooms, mushrooms, I like mushrooms! Mushrooms, mushrooms, eat them up, yum!” you sang to yourself as you carefully gathered mushrooms from the forest and placed them in a basket. Your mother had asked you to gather mushrooms so she could make dinner and you had happily obliged. After all, you were always looking for some excuse to go out into the forest on your own.
Of course, it had never occurred to you that you might run into a demon in the forest that was so close to your happy, peaceful village.
“What’s this?” questioned a raspy, deep, and disturbing voice. “A young human female all alone in the forest? What luck!”
You turn your head to the side to see a large demonic creature. He had to be at least ten feet tall, if not more. His massive body was covered with his rippling muscles, his skin a light powder blue, and his eyes were flashing bright red. Two large, pointed horns protruded from the top of his skull, poking out from his large tuft of messy, scruffy black hair. You gulped as you eyed his large, dangerous fangs that were currently dripping with his own drool.
“Excellent! It’s been so long since I’ve tasted the sweet delicacy of a young girl’s flesh!” the large demon nearly squealed in delight.
Your eyes widened and you gasped in horror at the sight of the hungry demon. Now, it didn’t take a genius to figure out that he planned on devouring you. Of course, you had no plans to be eaten by a demon and you certainly weren’t going to just sit back and allow him to do so. Oh no; you were going to fight until the very end!
“Ow!” the demon screamed as the mushroom you had just recently picked hit him square in the eye. “Curse you, you wretched little human wench!”
You, not liking the name that the man-eating demon called you by, carefully aimed a second mushroom and hit him in the chest. The mushroom did no damage and simply ricocheted off his muscular chest and landed softly on the grass.
Okay… So maybe mushrooms weren’t exactly the best choice of ammunition. Still, at least you were doing your best to defend yourself.
Sadly, your best wasn’t nearly enough.
You soon found yourself pinned against a tree, your back scraping against the rough bark as the demon pressed you harder against it. His large hand was gripping your neck, tightening his hold until you found that oxygen could no longer reach your lungs. Your face turned red from lack of air and you furiously clawed at the demon’s hand and tried to pry it away, but your pitiful attempts were useless; you could never match the strength of such a powerful youkai. After all, you were only human.
As your mind started to become fuzzy and blurry, you silently prayed to whoever might be listening that the demon would end your life quickly rather than slowly torturing you to death like many other demons did with their prey. Your head drooped and your blurred vision caught sight of the rest of the mushrooms you had collected. You mentally sighed to yourself when you realized that now you wouldn’t be able to bring them back to your mother for dinner. I hope Mother finds something else she can use to make dinner; I’d feel awful if her dining plans were ruined because of my dawdling.
Just when you started to feel as if your time in this world was almost up, a strange, rather annoying voice interrupted you from your inner thoughts.
“Excuse me, Demon, do you know the way to Ayame Village?”
The demon slowly turned towards the source of this new voice, his grip on your neck loosening just enough to allow some much-needed air into your aching lungs. The dizziness slowly dissipated from your mind and you now took time to observe the source of the strange voice that had indirectly saved your life… for the moment, at least.
You were surprised to find that your savior was none other than a demon, an imp to be more precise. He was short and stout, most likely no more than three feet tall, if not less. He had large, rounded, yellow eyes with long black slits that acted as pupils and sickly green skin. Due to his odd skin tone, when you looked at him, you were vaguely reminded of a toad. He wore a simple brown and tan outfit and carried in his small, claw-like hands a large staff with two-faces on the top of it. You couldn’t help but admire the strange staff.
The demon that still held you against the tree, however, was less amused by this interruption of his dinner. “Move along, small fry!” the demon growled. “Can’t you see I’m busy?” And with that, the demon turned back towards you, his grip on your neck returning full-force and causing you to gag.
“Why, you impudent demon! How dare you show such disrespect!” the small, toad-like imp huffed, which caused the larger demon to turn back towards him, his red eyes glowing murderously. You were thankful that the demon’s grip had once again loosened from your neck and took the chance to breathe in as much oxygen as you could while you still had the chance.
“I thought I told you to scram!” the larger demon screamed, in a very displeased tone. He bared his fangs to the small imp, hoping to intimidate him, but he had no such luck.
“Not until you tell me the location of Ayame Village!” the stubborn little imp replied. You couldn’t help but admire him for both his courage and his determination.
“I know where Ayame Village is” you unexpectedly interjected. Both demons turned their attention towards you. The large demon growled but the small imp nearly jumped in excitement, though he quickly composed himself.
“Well, what are you waiting for, Girl? Take me there!” he snapped at you.
At the moment, you would’ve loved nothing more than to be able to drop what you were doing and lead him to Ayame Village, but you found such a task to be quite impossible considering the demon that held you by your neck didn’t seem to have any intention of letting you go.
The demon answered for you. “I’m afraid she’s a bit preoccupied at the moment. Perhaps she’ll be able to speak with you after dinner.” He chuckled at his own joke, his lips rising just enough to reveal the many layers of sharp, pointed teeth he had.
“Jaken, what’s taking so long?” A beautiful, silky smooth voice rang through your ear.
You turned your head towards the direction of the lovely voice as best as you could. There standing before you (and the two demons in front of you) was a tall, slender man. His outfit he wore seemed very dignified and seemed to carry around it an air of nobility. He also wore armor and carried two swords with him, like some sort of warrior. He had long flowing silver locks of hair; you found this to be odd because he looked so young. His eyes were a striking golden color, and he had strange markings on his face; two sharp stripes on each cheek and a crescent moon on his forehead. As you observed the markings on his cheeks you noticed that his ears were thin and pointed.
Obviously, whoever this man was, he wasn’t human. Nothing that beautiful could ever be human.
Perhaps… Perhaps he’s an angel…?
“L-Lord Sesshomaru!” the imp stuttered. You couldn’t help but find it amusing how the creature could speak with such confidence to a large, dangerous, man-eating demon yet he seemed to lose all his confidence when it came to this man.
How odd. Perhaps this angel is really a demon in disguise.
“Lord Seshomaru” the imp continued, composing himself just enough to keep his bothersome stutter at bay. “This girl,” he extended a single clawed finger in your direction, “Says she knows the way to Ayame Village.”
The man’s blank expression didn’t change as he sent a disinterested look your way, though he acknowledged your current situation with a somewhat raised eyebrow. What an odd man you thought to yourself. It’s almost as if he can’t show any emotion whatsoever; like his face is carved from stone. How sad…
The large demon was growing impatient and his grip around your neck tightened even more now; it felt as if he were just seconds away from crushing your windpipe with his powerful claws and you wouldn’t be surprised if that was true. After all, even some of the weakest youkai around were still at least twice as strong as the average human and you were no exception. That was one of the most irritating weaknesses of humanity, though, you supposed that it was nothing compared to humanity’s strengths.
The demon turned back towards the two unexpected guests that had rudely interrupted his dinner plans and growled at them; this time his grip around your neck didn’t falter, giving you no chance to take a breather. “I suggest you weaklings quit disturbing me and leave now, before I eat you for dessert!” the demon growled threateningly.
The man’s features never changed from its normal apathetic expression, though you could’ve sworn that you saw… something flash in his eyes. Those slanted golden pools flickered for a brief second…
…And that was all the time the man needed to slay the demon; he wasted no time in unsheathing one of his two swords and slicing the demon in half with a deep, vertical slash.
You shuddered when you were splashed with a small amount of the sickeningly sticky, black blood of the demon. You wiped away all that had landed on your face and sighed to yourself when you realized that your outfit had been stained with the disgusting fluids from the demon, but you were thankful that you were no longer at the demon’s mercy, gasping for air and awaiting your demise.
You turned towards the man, your savior, and saw that he was already walking away from the scene. “Wait!” you called as you ran after him, trying to catch up with him. When you finally caught up to him you lowered your head respectfully. “Arigatou. If it weren’t for you, I’d already be in the demon’s stomach.”
But the man paid you no heed and continued to walk forward.
You sweat-dropped. “Well, he’s not much of a conversationalist…” you muttered quietly to yourself. However, your comment was overheard by the imp and he immediately used his large staff to smack you in the head. HARD. “Owowowowow! What was that for?!” you screamed as you rubbed your sore skull, trying to soothe the pain away.
The imp folded his arms and glared up at you. “Show some respect, Girl! The one you speak of is none other than the great Sesshomaru-sama, Demon Lord of the Western Lands!”
You blinked. “Sesshomaru…?”
“WHAT?!” he squawked, much louder than necessary. “You mean to tell me that you’ve never heard of Lord Sesshomaru?!” At this, you shook your head. “You ignorant human, have you been living under a rock all your life?!”
You smiled brightly. “No, I live in a hut with my mother and father. That’s why I was out here in the forest alone. You see, my mother asked me to go out and pick some mushrooms and-”
“Enough of your useless drabble” the imp interrupted, once again smacking you on the head with his staff, though this time there was less force behind the action. You pouted sourly at him as you rubbed your head. “Now hurry it up, Girl! If you keep Lord Sesshomaru waiting then he’ll just grow tired of you and kill you right away. You may know where Ayame Village is but you’re not the only one; you’re replaceable. Now hurry up, hurry up!”
You sighed to yourself and trudged after the small demon, briefly wondering to yourself how you got into this mess. For a moment you seriously considered running off in the opposite direction, but you felt that would be very ungrateful of you. After all, that man saved your life; the least you could do was lead him to Ayame Village.
However, that was a task easier said than done. Ayame Village was very far away from your own quaint little village. It would take at least a week of traveling in the dangerous, demon-infested lands. And Ayame Village itself was located very close to Wolf Demon territory.
But what frightened you the most was that you would be traveling with two demons, and the one that looked like a man, the Demon Lord Sesshomaru, had already proved to be as deadly as he was quiet. You stopped in your tracks to once again pray to whoever might be listening to you for a safe journey.
“Girl! Are you coming or not?!” squeaked the little toad-like imp as he tapped his clawed foot impatiently. You sighed to yourself, took one last look behind you towards the direction of your village, then reluctantly turned around and followed after the demons.
Also, I call Jaken an imp in the story. I have no idea what kind of demon he really is, but I think imp suits him. So there.
