Disclaimer: I don’t own Naruto, nor do I own the song My Beloved Monster; all I did was change feminine pronouns to masculine.
Well, this is my very first song fic and I hope you all enjoy.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sky was dark and gray due to the storm clouds that had accumulated overhead. The air was frigid and harsh and the rain was pouring heavily from the darkened sky. Even the wind was cold and sharp enough to cut through you like a dagger. Still, you couldn’t bring yourself to mind too much. Instead, you snuggled back against the figure behind you, basking in the warmth his body radiated as you kept his cloak clasped tightly around the both of you.
“I told you to bring your own jacket” Kisame stated blandly as he looked down at you. The rain splashed against his conical straw hat and streamed down the rim, dripping onto your hair.
You smiled up at him, the raindrops that fell on your face looking like happy tears as they slid down your rounded cheeks. “I know, but you’ve got plenty of room in that cloak of yours for the two of us. Besides…” You paused to momentarily wrap your arms around his waist, pressing your cheek against his chest. “You’re warm. Warmer than any jacket.”
Kisame rolled his eyes, but grinned as he patted your head almost affectionately. “You’re a weird one” he muttered to himself but still loud enough for you to hear him. You pulled your cheek away from his chest and smiled up at him, then the two of you continued onward through the village.
My beloved monster and me
We go everywhere together
Wearing a raincoat that has four sleeves
It gets us through all kinds of weather
As you walked down the nearly deserted streets of the village, you tried your best to keep up with Kisame’s long strides so that he wouldn’t bump into your back and knock you over once again. Sometime he forgot how his mammoth strength nearly dwarfed your own in comparison.
Still, you managed to keep up with his pace by moving your own feet twice as fast as his. You watched the ground carefully, making sure that you didn’t step on any worms that the rain had washed up or trip over any slippery-wet stones in the middle of your path.
You laughed aloud as you purposely jumped into a rather large puddle, splashing the rain water all over your and Kisame’s ankles. Kisame grunted in annoyance, causing you to look up at him sheepishly. His mouth was set into a thin line as he frowned down at you, the look in his beady eyes reprimanding you for the childish action. You responded by sticking your tongue out at him and blowing a raspberry.
Kisame growled and reached out towards you, most likely to grab a firm hold of your tongue and scold you again. However, you quickly jumped out of the cloak and into the cold air to avoid the punishment. The freezing rain pouring against your skin made you shiver but you just held your arms and laughed at the indignant frown on Kisame’s face.
He stepped towards you, his hands on his hips as he frowned down at you. You grinned as you bolted down the empty streets, turning your head back to look at Kisame, daring the man to chase after you. He let out a groan, but decided to humor you nonetheless and followed after you.
You once again focused your attention back in front of you, pumping your arms as you sped up your pace. The energy you exerted brought warmth to your freezing muscles, making the frigid temperature feel a little more bearable.
You smiled at the sound of the pounding footsteps behind you that gave away the position of your pursuer. You increased your speed again and nearly giggled as the pounding footsteps became a faint echo. You knew that Kisame could easily catch up to you but it was all part of the game and the chase was half the fun.
You immediately dived into the first alleyway you came across, giving yourself a chance to catch your breath. Once your breathing evened out and your heartbeat had stopped racing, you carefully peaked from the side of the alleyway. You spotted Kisame; his figure appeared small due to the distance between the two of you. The man had slowed down to a walking pace now that you were no longer in his sight. Even though you couldn’t see the details of what he was doing since he was so far away, you knew he was most likely shaking his head, quietly cursing your name under his breath for playing childish games in such foul weather.
You pulled yourself back inside the alley, hiding before Kisame could discover your hiding place. You hid your face in your hands to muffle the chuckles that escaped from the back of your throat. You knew it wouldn’t be long before he found you and lectured you for running around in the rain without a jacket, so you decided you would try to make this game of hide-and-seek last for as long as possible.
You flinched as you felt cold metal press against the back of your neck, your laughter ceasing immediately.
Your entire body tensed as a rough hand gripped your left shoulder, pushing your back against the stone wall. The knife was now under your chin, pressed close enough to your skin that you could feel the bite of the metal against your flesh. You kept yourself still, your breath slow and shallow and your eyes wide as you stared at your attacker. You couldn’t make out their face due to the darkness of the alley, the shadows effectively shrouding their appearance. However, you could tell by the outline of their body that this person was indeed a man.
“Give me all your money and I won’t hurt you” he rasped out, his voice painful and scratchy like sandpaper. It was the voice of a desperate man; a man that had nothing left to lose in his life. You could feel his warm, frantic breath against your cheek, contrasting with the cold air and rain.
You took in a deep breath of air, trying to regulate your breathing and calm your nerves. “I don’t have any money” you answered, your voice a little shakier than you would’ve wanted it to sound. Honestly, you really didn’t have any money on you; Kisame never allowed you to hold onto any money of your own because he argued that you would just spend it all on sweets. To be fair, you probably would’ve done just that, but that wasn’t the point.
You could see the muscles in the man’s hand tighten around the handle of his knife as he pressed it even harder against your throat. You gasped in pain as you felt the blade lightly slice into your tender flesh. A whimper escaped past your lips at the stinging sensation; you could feel as a thin trail of blood dripped down your neck along with the falling rain. You closed your eyes tight, waiting for the final blow and hoping that it would come quickly, lest you die from the anticipation.
However, it never came. You opened your eyes tentatively, surprised when you no longer felt a hand on your shoulder or a knife against your neck. You were even more surprised when, instead of seeing the shadowed face of your attacker, you were met with the back of a more familiar figure: Kisame. In front of him was your attacker who now looked less intimidating and frightening compared to an angered shark-man.
“Always causing trouble” he muttered absentmindedly as he gripped the handle of his large sword and pulled it off his back, holding the giant blade over his head with ease using just one hand. “Lucky for you, I like trouble” he said; you could nearly hear the sharp-toothed grin in his voice.
He will always be the only thing
That comes between me and the awful sting
That comes from living in a world that’s
So
Damn
Mean
“Kisame,” you breathed out his name in awe, “You found me” you finished with a smile.
He didn’t turn around to see you; he didn’t need to turn around to know that you were grinning. Instead, he kept his eyes on the man before him. He raised his lips into a large frown, baring his sharp, triangular teeth. The man stared up at Kisame, slowly trying to back away; Kisame responded by slamming his massive blade on the ground by the man’s feet. He then lifted the sword, revealing the large indent that his strength created.
The man gulped.
Kisame smirked.
The man stumbled backwards a few steps, then turned around and ran as fast as his legs could carry him. Kisame grinned, his beady eyes sparkling with mirth and bloodlust. His sharp-toothed grin widened and his pupils shrank as he prepared to pounce and cut the man to ribbons, however, something held him back. He watched as the man ran away into the pouring rain, disappearing from sight, then looked down to see you holding onto his cloak, gripping the cloth tightly.
“You let him get away” he growled, his eyes narrowing at you.
You simply smiled back at him. “I know.”
“I could’ve destroyed him for what he did to you; I should’ve destroyed him for what he did to you.”
“I know.”
“He’ll just end up doing the same thing to some other poor, unsuspecting victim, only they might not be as fortunate as you were.”
“Maybe so,” you answered, “But maybe this experience will convince him to find a better way to earn money. Maybe now he’ll lead a more honest, prosperous life.”
Kisame snorted. “I highly doubt that. I’m sure he’ll be back on the streets, mugging defenseless women in a week.” Kisame frowned down at you and sighed at the almost-knowing smile on your face. He gave your head a pat, causing disheveled locks of wet hair to tangle lightly from the action. “Sometimes you can be so naïve” he muttered quietly before pulling you back inside his cloak with him, warming up your chilled body.
You smiled and stood up on the tip of your toes, just barely reaching his chin. He stared down at you oddly, then lowered his head so that he was at your eye-level, trying to figure out what you were planning. “I know” you finally answered, brushing your lips softly against his cheek before lowering yourself so that your feet were planted firmly on the ground so you could snuggle against Kisame’s warm chest.
You giggled as you heard his heartbeat quicken, though it only lasted a sew seconds before he managed to compose himself and calm his beating heart. With a sigh, as well as one last pat on your head, he started walking out of the alley and back into the streets, pulling you along with him. You obediently walked with him, smiling as you noticed he was walking at a slower pace so you didn’t have to worry about trying to keep up.
My beloved monster is tough
If he wants he will destroy you
But if you lay him down for a kiss
His little heart it could explode
You and Kisame slowly walked together down the street, not minding as the cold rain poured down on your head because you had someone to keep you warm. You grinned, keeping your back pressed against Kisame’s chest even as you walked, taking comfort in his closeness. Even as the two of you traveled along in the stormy weather, there was no place you would’ve rather been at the moment.
Slowly, the rain softened to a light drizzle and eventually died away as the gray storm clouds lightened. The sun peaked out from behind the clouds, the magnificence of its golden light brightening up the sky. Your smile widened even more to reflect the fair weather as the sun slowly worked to dry off you rain-drenched hair.
“Kisame, look! A rainbow!” You stopped walking and giggled as you pointed towards the sky, your eyes focused on the arc of colors that almost magically hung in the air. Your eyes sparkled and glittered in awe at the very sight of it. “It’s a good omen” you stated calmly, still looking on in amazement at how something so simple could be so beautiful.
Kisame nodded his head, briefly glancing at the rainbow before turning his head back down toward you. He tried to keep his expression a blank slate but he couldn’t repress a grin as he reached down to put his hand on your shoulder lightly in a sign of comfort. The light of the sun reflected against his sharpened teeth, causing them to gleam brightly.
You didn’t bother to turn around and look at him; you didn’t need to turn around to know that he was smiling.
He will always be the only thing
That comes between me and the awful sting
That comes from living in a world that’s
So
Damn
Mean
You stood with Kisame a moment longer to admire the view before abruptly pulling away from him, jumping out of his cloak and spinning in circles as you allowed the sun to warm your flesh and dry off your rain-soaked clothing. You laughed and spun and nearly cried in happiness, practically dancing in the still-vet village streets, enjoying the sudden change of weather.
Kisame just looked on, watching you fondly as you played in the streets like a young child, twirling about and drying yourself off in the sunlight and staring up at the rainbow. He let out a deep chuckle and turned away, continuing down the streets to an unknown destination. He didn’t turn around; he didn’t need to turn around to know that you were following him.
You skipped after him, smiling, with your arms flailed out to your sides like a pair of wings. You laughed and smiled and chased after Kisame, singing a song that had no real words.
“Lalalalalalalalalala,
Lalalalalala…”

First of all, I’d like to say that I don’t know if rainbows are good or bad omens, but I personally think they’re good. To me, a rainbow is a way of telling you that good things can come out of a bad situation.
Also, I really like this song and I felt it was an appropriate pick for Kisame.
Well, I hope it didn’t suck too bad. xD Lol. Thank you for your time.
