“Kisa-kun, wait for me!”
Kisame continued walking onward towards the academy, ignoring you as you ran as fast as you could to catch up with him. It was a good thing he had such long legs, otherwise you might’ve caught up to him already.
“Kisa-kun, why didn’t you slow down?!” you whined as you caught up to him, holding onto his arm so he couldn’t escape. You took a moment to regain your breath then let go of Kisame’s arm and walked by his side toward the academy.
“…You’re annoying.”
“Yeah, and you’re an antisocial butt-munch. What’s your point?”
Kisame sighed. “Never mind.”
In no time, you and Kisame were back in the classroom where you had first met your jounin instructor. Takei was already seated in the back of the classroom, scribbling furiously at a piece of paper. Kisame rolled his eyes at this; the perv was probably drawing more porn.
You had tried to sneak behind Takei and look over his shoulder at his picture but he detected you soon enough and put his pictures away, his face taking on a crimson hue.
Kisame let out a sigh of relief. If Takei hadn’t put his pictures away then Kisame would’ve been forced to hold you back. You didn’t need to see dirty pictures; you probably wouldn’t even realize what it was at first anyway. Or, if you did realize what it was…
Well, Kisame didn’t want to think about that. Girls as young and naïve as you shouldn’t know what porn is anyway.
With a sigh, you set yourself down on top of one of the desks. You busied yourself with tracing random patterns over the desk with your index finger… for about ten seconds. Your short attention span wouldn’t allow you to stay quiet for too long, so you turned your attention back towards Takei.
“Takei… We’re on a team together, so we should be good friends” you stated, a thoughtful expression crossing over your face as your brows furrowed.
Kisame couldn’t help but notice that you looked sort of funny with that expression. Almost even cute.
“Since Kisame is Kisa-kun… I’ll call you Taki-kun!” you exclaimed, pointing a delicate finger in Takei’s general direction.
At this point, the boy’s blush had diminished but was still a healthy pink. He stared at you, cautiously, curiously, but smiled back at you nonetheless. “I’d like that very much. Thank you.”
Kisame frowned. You barely knew the kid and you were already treating the boy as if the two of you were dear childhood friends. Then again, that was just how you were; you were friendly. Too friendly for your own good, maybe.
“It’s good to see you’re all getting along” came a cheery voice from the ceiling.
Kisame flinched at the sound of the man’s voice as he stared up at the ceiling, looking at his sensei as the blonde-haired man hung upside down. He didn’t like how easy it was for his new sensei to slip in the room undetected, jounin level or not. And it wasn’t as if he needed to either; the man was probably just trying to show off in order to impress his genins, not that it would ever work on a shinobi of Kisame’s caliber.
You, on the other hand, were another story.
“WOW! Yoshizaki-sensei, you’re so cool!” you shouted in excitement. “I didn’t even notice you come in!”
Kisame rolled his eyes. You wouldn’t notice a giant snake if it were wrapped around your neck and started squeezing with all its might. Of course, Kisame chose to keep this comment to himself. After all, he hadn’t detected Yoshizaki-sensei either.
Yoshizaki grinned, soaking up the praise like a sponge. “Well, as much as I enjoy hearing young girls talking about how great I am, which is quite a lot, I’m afraid we have some work to do. Before we can go on any missions I need to measure the extent of your abilities. So, if you’ll all follow me, I’ll take you outside to the training grounds and give you all a quick test.” He smiled as he flipped off the ceiling, landing gracefully on the floor.
Kisame gave the man a deadpan stare. “Wouldn’t it have made more sense for you to tell us to meet you at the training grounds instead?” he remarked, crossing his arms in an almost superior manner.
Yoshizaki only grinned, the corner of his eyes crinkling as they closed. “So, not only are you boring but you’re a smart-aleck as well?” Kisame frowned as the man ruffled his hair in mock affection. “I already like you a little more.”
Kisame frowned but didn’t bother to fix his hair; it was already in a state of disarray even before his sensei had touched it. Ninjas didn’t have time to fuss over their looks, Kisame reminded himself. True ninjas were too busy training to care about something as mundane and trivial as messy hair.
Without complaint, Kisame stood from his seat and followed after Yoshizaki-sensei as the older man walked out of the classroom and left the building, heading for the training grounds. You and Takei were right behind him, the two of you in complete awe over how cool your sensei was.
The four of you arrived at the training grounds shortly, after all, even genin were capable of manipulating chakra to their feet to increase their speed. Yes, even you, though you used up more chakra then was necessary. Kisame made a note to himself to help you practice your chakra control.
The blonde man stopped as he reached the very center of the training grounds, turning on his heels towards the three of you with a sly grin on his face. “Your test will be…” You and Takei watched Yoshizaki with excitement, waiting anxiously for him to continue. Kisame simply yawned. “…To capture this scroll from me” he finished, revealing a small, tan parchment rolled up neatly into a scroll. “Retrieve it from me within ten minutes and I’ll regard you as true ninjas of the mist village. Fail and I might even consider sending you back to the academy.”
Back to the academy? Kisame huffed. He doubted that Yoshizaki had enough authority to do such a thing, no matter how strong of a jounin he was. And even if he did have the power, Kisame knew that it wouldn’t be long before he was out of the academy again. Still, it would be a pain to have to repeat any more lessons.
“That’s no fair, Sensei!” you shouted, a frown on your normally cheerful face and your brows furrowed.
Kisame frowned. Did you really have so little faith in yourself? In the team? In him? It was disappointing to see you out of all people giving up so easily. Kisame had thought that you had a little more confidence than that.
“That’s you against the three of us” you continued. Suddenly, a cheeky grin spread across your face, your eyes shining brightly. Kisame blinked at this. “You don’t stand a chance, Sensei.”
Yoshizaki grinned right back, a mischievous glint shining in his own blue eyes. “We’ll see about that… Begin!”
You, Kisame, and Takei instantly scattered, hiding among the forest and out of Yoshizaki’s vision. Kisame was easily able to detect yours and Takei’s chakra signatures; the two of you still needed to work on chakra control and masking your chakra.
“So, what’s the plan, Kisa-kun?” you asked in a quiet whisper, large and inquisitive eyes staring up at him and waiting for instructions. Even Takei waited patiently for a response.
It was a weird feeling for Kisame; he’d never had anyone depend on him before. All his life, Kisame had watched out for himself and no one else. He never had anyone ask him for help before. It was an odd feeling, to have others depending on him, to have others trust him to make important decisions. To be the leader of a team, a pack, rather than a lone wolf.
Kisame grinned; he could get used to this.
“_____, you’ll jump out and distract him by throwing several kunai. Takei, while Sensei is distracted, you’ll go after him from behind. I’ll get him with a full-frontal attack and strike him with my sword. Got it?”
“Yes’sir, boss-man!” you said, nodding enthusiastically as you reached for your kunai pouch. Takei nodded as well, a determined look crossing over his features.
This was good; Kisame had a plan and a team of determined ninjas that would follow through with it. If everyone worked together then taking down Yoshizaki-sensei would be a piece of cake. Now all Kisame had to do was wait for the ideal time to attack, give the signal, and then the three of you could launch your attack and-
…Where’d everyone go?
“YAAAAAHHH!” you shouted as you threw four kunai towards Yoshizaki-sensei, aiming them all towards vital organs or pressure points. He easily reflected them with five kunai of his own, just as he did the first time you two met, only this time the reflected kunai were coming right back at you. “Eeep!” You stared on, wide-eyed and frozen, as the kunai came straight towards your body. Rather than do the reasonable thing and jump out of the way, you stared on like a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming SUV.
You squealed as the kunai made contact, the force strong enough to push you back until you collided with a tree. You were surprised when you felt no pain other than a fairly sore back. You looked down to see that the kunai had caught itself in the cloth of your sleeves and pants legs, thus pinning you to the tree.”
“…Well, this sucks” you commented sourly, tugging on your restraints and trying to get free. No good; you were stuck.
But that was okay because Takei was there to save the day! He lunged from his hiding place, prepared to attack Yoshizaki-sensei from behind. Just as he was about to make contact, Yoshizaki turned around to face him, an orange book in his hands.
Takei instantly stopped. “I-is that Icha Icha Paradise Volume One Special Girl-Love Cherry-Scented Limited Edition?”(1)
Yoshizaki-sensei nodded his head, smiling, then unexpectedly threw the book towards Takei’s head. Takei caught it, but received a kick in the stomach from Yoshizaki the second the book landed in his hands. Takei fell to the ground, his hands clutching his stomach as he tried to regain his breath. Needless to say, Takei was down for the count.
And then there was one.
Kisame sweat-dropped from his hiding position. How dandy. Had that been a real mission, you and Takei would’ve been dead. Kisame sighed; there wasn’t much that he could do now.
Kisame took a moment to collect himself, then lifted his giant sword and charged towards Yoshizaki. He easily dodged the kunai that were thrown his way, shifting towards the left or right or even ducking if need be. Once he was close enough, Kisame swung his sword at Yoshizaki, connecting with the man’s shoulder blade.
A cool, wet substance splashed across Kisame’s face rather than the warm blood that should have spilled from the body before it disappeared and became nothing more than a puddle on the ground. Kisame frowned; it was just a water clone. Which meant that the real Yoshizaki-sensei was…
“Right behind you.”
Before Kisame could even turn around, Yoshizaki applied fingers enlaced with chakra to specific chakra points to Kisame’s body, causing the boy to fall to the ground, his arms and legs temporarily immobilized. Kisame growled as he landed face-first on the ground but made no other response.
“Well,” Yoshizaki started, “Only two minutes left and your entire team is already incapacitated. Looks like you all fail” he stated, a grin on his face. “Too bad; I was just starting to like you guys. Oh well, back to the academy for you!” he nearly squealed in a taunting manner, waving the scroll mockingly as he spoke.
You pouted as you continued to try and shake the kunai that held you loose. Still no luck; the most you could do was reach your hand into your pocket and all you had was some spare money leftover from lunch.
And that’s when you were struck by a brilliant idea.
“Yoshizaki-sensei! I have eight hundred ryo in my pocket! If I give it to you will you give us the scroll?”
Kisame snorted. “That has to be one of the absolutely most idiotic ideas I have ever heard in my life. What sort of self-respecting ninja would ever allow you to pass a mission that you already failed in exchange for some pocket change?”
“Deal!” And with that, Yoshizaki took your money and placed the scroll in your hand.
“Sweet! My plan actually worked!” you exclaimed as Yoshizaki pulled out the kunai that held you in place, releasing you from the evil tree’s grip. He casually walked over to Kisame and pulled the boy up into a sitting position; Kisame would gain the mobility of his limbs on his own within a few minutes. Yoshizaki then walked over to Takei and kicked him lightly in the leg. He had no reason for doing so; he just liked harassing his genin.
“Well, I hope you all learned a valuable lesson today” your jounin instructor stated as he pocketed the ryo.
“Was the lesson to make sure that you work together with your teammates and to coordinate your attack better instead of running off and attacking the enemy before you’re supposed to?” you questioned, your hand raised in the air.
“Nope. The lesson is that I like money, especially when it’s being offered to me by a cute girl” he answered with a smile. You, Takei, and Kisame sweat-dropped. “Well, good work team. That’s enough training for today. And don’t worry, I’ll find you when it’s time for us to train again. See ya!”
And with that, your sensei disappeared.
As the three of you stared at the spot where Yoshizaki stood just moments before, Kisame briefly wondered if it was possible to apply for a new jounin instructor. …And maybe a new team too, while he was at it.

(1) I have no idea how old Jiraiya was when he started his famous series, but I’m assuming he started off fairly early. After all, he was already peeping at women in the bathhouses when he was barely a genin. Also, he’s around thirty or so years older than Kisame so he’s had time to start his series by now.
Wow, all my OCs are weird. >.> Takei is a young closet pervert that enjoys reading porn and drawing hentai and Yoshizaki likes women and takes money from little girls. Lol.
I’m not sure what’s going to happen in the next chapter. I’m guessing either a mission or more alone time with Kisame since I’m better at writing fluffy moments than actiony things.
